News and Announcements for Northern Tier Expedition 2015:

LAST UPDATE = 14 Mar. 2015
PREPARATIONS FOR THE TRIP ARE STARTING TO PICK UP SPEED!
READ ALL ITEMS BELOW FOR NEW INFO!!!
COORDINATION MEETING FOR NORTHERN TIER ON 30 MARCH
The Northern Tier adventurers will meet on 30 March at Toney UMC at 6:45pm (after flag posting at regular Troop meeting) to ensure we are all on track with our trip planning. We will discuss everything from training to passports to medical forms to foot gear.
AIRLINE GROUP TICKETS RESERVED
I have placed the down payment of $50 per ticket on a group of 16 tickets with USAir to get us from HSV to MSP per the master schedule below (two of our 18 participants will meet us at MSP.) The total cost per passenger is $442.20.
WE NOW HAVE THE MINIMAL PARTICIPANTS TO FILL THREE CREWS!
While we can still accommodate more participants, we have reached our minimal number of participants required to fill three crews of six apiece. Any additional participants we recruit now will reduce the overall costs for everyone going to Northern Tier.

Contact ASM Keys to get more information and to learn how to join us.

BUT DO IT QUICKLY as there is a time limit on when we can add participants to the group airfare ticket list and to the Northern Tier base manifest.

COORDINATION/STATUS MEETING ON 30 MARCH
To ensure we are all at the same point in planning, we will have a coordination meeting on 30 March at Toney United Methodist Church. At this meeting, I will ask if everyone has (at least applied for) the documents needed to cross the boarder. I am recommending passport books or cards for everyone. I also plan to have final info on airline tickets and ground transportation.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE FOR NORTHERN TIER
The payment schedule for the trip is based on the payment schedule to Norther Tier:
  • IMMEDIATELY: $100 Deposit for holding a slot.
  • 29 SEP: $300 (this plus deposit covers over half the Northern Tier Fees).
  • 16 MAR: $400 (this more than completes Northern Tier Fees).
  • 01 JUN: ~$700 balance due to cover remaining trip costs.

Total trip costs are estimated to be around $1500. We will have a better estimate once airline and ground transport costs are identified.
ADULT TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (START THEM NOW!)
It is not too early to begin completing required training for the adult leaders. The Northern Tier Advisor Planning Guide includes these requirements:
    Each Crew must have:
  • A minimum of two adults (one of which must be at least 21 years of age and registered with the BSA). There are no gender restrictions for leadership except for co-ed Venturing crews, which must have both male and female leadership 21 years old or older.
  • 1 adult leader trained in the following:
    • Wilderness First Aid (16 hour course)
    • CPR
    • Weather Hazards
    • Safe Swim Defense
    • Safety Afloat
  • All adult leaders must be trained in "Youth Protection Training."
GOOD NEWS: Seven persons from Troop 94 (six adults, one scout) recently completed the Wilderness First Aid course offered in Birmingham on 30 Jan - 01 Feb. Five of the seven will be on our expedition to Northern Tier. We now can met our requirement of having at least one adult per crew with CPR and WFA training.
